search engine script
I am in a process o choosing a script for the search engine that I have to make. So far I found two that I like: Hyperseek and Links SQL. Did anybody had any bad expiriences with those two? Can you suggest something better? I have checked the cgi-resources and did not see anything that seemed right, but then again maybe I overlooked something.

I recommend starting with Links 2 and upgrading to Links SQL when you need it. (For example, when you hit 4000 links.) It's a great script.

Thanks, that is exacly what I am going to do. For some reason I could not find anybody that uses Hyperseek, therefore I decided to go with Links SQL. By the way, can someone explain to me what is the major difference between those two? Is Hyperseek more powerfull in any way?

I am fairly sure that VirtualPromote.com uses Hyperseek software.

JP: Unless I'm mistaken, they actually use POD, which is free.

Ah, yes, that's Hyperseek all right.
RobertW: I can't praise Links enough. In my humble opinion, it's the finest directory script on the Internet.

John Cokos (Hyperseek) and Alex Krohn (Links) are two of the nicest guys out there - they're also two of the msot talented.
You can rest assured that whichever package you go with, you will be happy. Your decision depends on two or three things:

What I am trying to do right now is to make a non English search engine, as a part o the network I am working on. Money situation is not great but I would be willing to spend about a $1000 for this script... When it comes to playing with the code... well I am no programmer but I am learning fast(I took some COBOL in college) Basically I need something that I could add-on to as the right time and money comes... I installed and played with Links 2.0 and so far I like it. In the beginning it should be enough and in the future I can always go for links SQL. Hyperseek seems great but I did not have a chance to try it myself and therefore don't feel too great about spending $900 for something that I might not like... There is also a problem with foreign characters that I have to use... I found some mods for links 2.0 that can handle that, but as far as I know Hyperseek will only support those characters in the new 2000 edition... Well, right know I am using Links 2.0 just because it was free for me to try... I still have not decided which way to go...
What would you guys use?
