need some help - What the ....
Man, I'm totally lost with all this Perl and SSI crap. Can you please give me an idea what this is? I have seen some cool CGI scripts for guestbooks, counters and other neat stuff. But whats Perl? Does it improve a site or make it do awesome things that can't be done with Java or DHTML?

PERL is computer language that can be used to make all kinds of nifty programs. On the Internet, it works as a server/client platform, that means that the information has to travel back and forth between the user and the server. Instead, DHTML does not have that capability, once is downloaded into your browser, you interact with it locally; DHTML is used more for designing not for programming. JAVA could be used as PERL in some cases, but doesn't have wide spread acceptace as PERL does. JAVA is supposed to have a lot of potential but it hasn't demonstrated it yet.
