major shopping cart probs, plz help!
okay,
i have a client that wants me to set up a shopping cart. i've never done this before! please help. i don't know php. is there a way i can set one up without writing an actual program. maybe a free one i can get and install on the site? thx
ok, i found a tutorial with an easy free cart. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/beyond/shoppingcart.html
but the client, just sent me an email saying,
QUOTE
"ok... all i need inside is...
a form that adds items to the database (item name, number, price,
shipping cost, etc...)
a shopping cart that displays all items in cart...right on the page
but I want to be able to call data from the mysql table to show names
of all items in the shopping cart on every page they're on.
It's accualy pretty simple... what u think?"
easy...ha i need to know how to make the form he mentions. and the third part about calling data from the mysql table to show names of all items in the shopping cart on every page they're on.
okay at the order page for this. there's only one order method. and that's phone.
this may be a problem. he'll probably want a bunch of crap. what should i do?
can anyone help??!?!?!?!

use OSCommerce... it's practically self installing and if you can't cope with it, I could always install it for you... only takes about 10 minutes (MAX). Have a look at the demo at oscommerce.com and if you like it drop me a line.
I don't know about showing the cart on the pages, but I'm sure theres a module that lets you do it. (again... should install nice and easily).

Just checked... Once something is in your cart, OSCommerce always displays it in the left menu, so a standard installation will do.

k, that's funny. i had just read some posts in another forum about oscommerce. i went and chked it out and dl'd it just in case. but the posts in that forum, said that you end up getting 20 pages deep to change a value and that it was a major hassle. what do u think?
also, i am all for it, if it will allow a (for lack of a better word) "lamer" to go to a page and add new items or delete old ones, and change prices. he needs to b able to do it w/o any actuall code editing.
if you really can help me set it up, i'll be very gratefull.

Yeah... OS Commerce comes with an admin area that allows you to setup pretty much all aspects of the site (products, prices, options etc).
theres an easy to install module that adds a simple template system for OScommerce that means that anybody with a bit of knowledge can customise the templates really well.
Drop me an email ([email protected]) and I'll give you a hand setting up.
I'll need the following details:
FTP username
FTP password
FTP address
MySQL username
MySQL password
MySQL database name
MySQL host address
Folder you want installing in
That should be everything.

Then I can't help you. Your loss.
How else did you think I was going to install a database driven ecommerce system?
