Sometimes it depends on whether your web hosting company performs better under one of the two. Give their tech support a phone call and ask them.

OK...We might be changing hosting companies. I know many still do not support ASP yet. But all that aside...would you have any info on which is:
1) more reliable
2) easier to maintain
3) user friendly
4) compatible with other software/databases etc..

This is what I'm trying to determine.
Thanks for the help!!!

Hey everyone,

Got a question...
The company I work for wants to convert everything over to a browser based environment. This includes order entry, e-commerce, shipping/receiving etc.... Now is it better to use ASP with Visual Basic, or using Java?
ANY comments suggestions would help me out tremendiously!

Thanks a bunch and Greeat Job with the forum!!

Shpek,

I'd have to say I'm a little biased since a I use ASPs and VB all the time, but if you're familiar with those it makes sense to go that way. It's been my experience that VB components run faster and are more reliable.

The one area where Java has an edge is it's versatility. It's easier to use a Java component on different servers than it is with a VB one.

In the end I would say to go with what ever you are more comfortable with, but my vote goes with the ASP-VB solution.

Hey thanks for the returned comments. I know this is a difficult question but I'm trying to get as much info as possible.

Does anyone know where I could go to dig up more info on this?

Thanks a ton! Smiling
