Stefen was developing Boardzilla in Perl, but I think he has stopped the development for the time being so that he can work on other projects also.
I have recently started a version of "boardzilla". It is only in the very early stage of development (I have only spent about 4 days working on it). It is written in PHP using a MySQL backend. You can view the first part of it at: http://dlo.net/~rob/forum/forum_display.php
I still need to work on the "Reply" script, than the basics of the board will be made.

robp,
Looks like a great start, keep it going because this PHP/MySQL version will be far better than a perl version (IMO)

Hi,
on friday I started hacking on a php+mysql board.
It works, but needs some cleaning up before I release it as a base for an open source project.
btw:
Can somebody at least fix the boardzille website ?
Looks like a bomb struck it.

It seems stupid working on 12 different boards, why don't we just kick boardzilla back into shape?

Well,
that's what I waited for the last few month,
but since not even the website was cleaned up I assumed the whole thing died.
Since BT on my site is just **** and the support is ... worse ... I just decided to hack together my own suite.

Yeah, Stefen was working on it for a while, and had an Alpha version out (everything was done, just needed bugs worked out), then he decided to stop working on it. He was actually brainstorming a few ideas like a) making it a remotely hosted script, and b) rewriting it with a Java backend. Oh well...
ANTI: why does the BoardZilla website look like a bomb struck it? It looks fine to me...

I dont want to sound cruel but why cant anyone design a forum that doesnt look like UBB? Surely someone can come up with a different layout.

Try Allaire ColdFusion bb - looks different and is now open source (read free). You do need ColdFusion access, though. (thanks slashdot)

It is fully template driven and you can make it look like whatever you want, even if there demo does look like the UBB!

Hi,
in fact most of the bulletin boards I've used are template driven (including mine ).
Why we use the UBB layout ?
Why is UBB using the standard BBS layout ?
Because it's been there for almost 20 (30?) years now. And it works.
Do you have something better in mind ?
(Left to right ??)
Let me know if you need something special ... it will be there!
ciao
