How do I run PHP from my Harddrive?
I have just started to try programming in PHP, and now I have ran into the first problem:
How do I run the file from my harddrive?
I have installed PWS(Personal Web Server) but that doesnt seem to help me on that one, what else shall I do to make it work?
I hope that you can help me, so that I can try out what I am making...
Thanks in advance
Casper

You need to use a PHP-friendly web server and PHP itself. I'm not sure if PWS handles PHP (I'd bet no) but several freeware web servers do. Look into either Apache, Xitami or Omni-HTTPD (sp?)
I'd recommend going with Apache since it's so well documented, but the other 2 are probably a little bit easier to set up. There's a good article about installing a local Windows Apache/PHP/Perl/MySQL development environment at:
http://www.thedailyspread.com/tech/tut.html
and another good one at:
http://www.e-business.auc.dk/tools/wamp.html
Those will provide step-by-step instructions as well as links to all the pertinent files that you'll need to download.

Running a webserver on a win 9x box is somewhat frustrating. Most webservers out there were made for *nix boxes, so it took me a while to find win32 files and get mine to work.
I'm running Win98 with Apache 1.3.12, ActivePerl, PHP4, mySQL.
I didn't know PWS supported PHP [even with an install], so I just went and installed Apache. I don't know if PWS supports all the same environment variables and other stuff.

If there is no answer on Google, then there is no question.

I have given up making PHP work on my computer, that will be way too much work, when I dont know anything about what I am doing, when I am installing it...
I think that I will try ASP instead, that seems a little more easy...
If anybody can give me a good link to some toturials (for biginners) I would appreciate that...
Thanks for your help with PHP, and now I hope that you can help me with ASP. I have found out how to amke ASP run from my computer, so that that shouldnt be the problem...

Hi vinny
I will look at the page you have given me, and see for my self, if I can find out how to program in ASP
I am (again) having some problems with running ASP from my computer, even though PWS is installed... I am getting tired of it...
Well... I will try to figure that one out

I just came across a great installer program for PHP. It installed the latest version (4.02) onto your Windows platform without any hassles.
The url is

I just used it, and it is a really great program.

ASP agggghhh....dont give in to the dark-side hotcut! & if you think that PWS will be an easier ride than apache - get ready for a shock - lol
if you have not already got it installed - you can download PHP4/MySQL/phpMyAdmin/Apache 1.3.12 all zipped and preconfigured to run on (98(& sometimes 95)& 2K) at http://www.firepages.com.au/bundle.php3
good luck
