Creating product serial number

I have a website which after ordering, processes the credit card online. I have not yet gone live because I'm completely stuck on a couple of things. (I cannot change my merchant account provider as I have already paid the license.)

How do I:

1. Enable my products to be downloaded after their credit card has been processed online?

2. Create a serial number for the product to be emailed to the client?

2. What do most companies do with multiple digital products?

Any suggestions or pointers are welcome.

I might suggest hiring a perl programmer who can work with SSL (secure servers) to do this for you. I can't think of any programs off the top of my head that can do what you asked but I have seen the on the internet before.

The best place to find programmers is in the "jobs" part of the webmaster-forums.com (where your at now). cgi-resources.com has a job section too but I like the one here better.
