cgi script for tracking external link usage?

I believe such a thing exists, correct me if I'm wrong. I've seen web links that are running through some sort of script and assume that is what they are for.

Basically, I'd like to have some idea of how deeply my portfolio is being checked. In other words, are they clicking the client links and going to the actual site?

Any ideas or suggestions?
