Caching Script

I am running the Dmoz version of pod on my site and wanted to have the script cache the output so that it would decrease my load and bandwith from people using it. The problem is that I have just started learning perl and am at a loss for where to start. Can a perl guru out there tell me where I should start and maybe what actions the perl program should take to be most efficiant.
