Correct me if I'm wrong with this statement.
- A catalog in Index Server does not include subfolders.

If that is true which it seems to be in my testing I have this problem.

I have created a form which using FSO dynamically creates folders and is used in somewhat of a Windows Explorer type of tool. The problem is if a user uploads a document into an existing folder Index Server will automatically add it to it's Indexes. If the user adds a folder it is not loaded so they will have to manually add this which requires access to the server.

Is there a way to add a folder as a Catalog using VBScript? If not, is there a better way to Catalog these folders?

After you add a catalog, you must add the directories that are to be included within the catalog's scope. This is the set of directories that it covers, both those to be indexed and those to be specifically excluded from being indexed. By default, the System catalog includes all directories on all local storage, except temporary Internet files and history files. You can add directories to a catalog's scope, and you can specifically exclude directories from being indexed. For example, suppose your local drive D has the following directories:

D:\Marketing
D:\Marketing\Personal
D:\Marketing\Miscellaneous

If you include D:\Marketing in the scope of a catalog, then D:\Marketing\Personal and D:\Marketing\Miscellaneous are also indexed. If you do not want documents in D:\Marketing\Personal to be indexed, add it to the Directories list and under Include in Index, click No.

If a directory is contained within another directory that is excluded from being indexed, the contained directory is also excluded, even if you add it to the catalog as a separate entry and under Include in Index, Yes is selected.

I hit F1 on the desktop to bring up 'Help and Support Center'.
Then I searched for 'index'.
In the left pane, I clicked 'Indexing Service'.
In the right pane, I clicked 'Indexing Service Help'.
In the right pane, I clicked 'Creating catalogs'.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am not sure why my server is acting the way it is then. I add a directory (D:\Mainweb\Reports) and it catalogs that directory. When I created a new web and added the same folder but this time also added D:\Mainweb\Reports\Marketing it added a large number of files that were not included. I have checked and it does not have any excluding folders listed.

Either way I have that working as much as I need to for right now. I guess with the folders automatically being indexed each folder I create will add itself to the indexing portion of the server also.

I will run some tests with it to see what I could be doing wrong, hopefully it will start working for me.
