php/mysql resources needed
Anyone know of any good php/mysql tutorials out there, been searching for ages but all I can find is bits and pieces.
would like mysql than php but will settle for anything.
even a site where there examples actually work would be good
**I'm taking notes as I learn, so once I know enough (probably in the year 2020 lol) I'm going to make me a complete site for the complete beginner**

Can I sign up for your new site when you are done please? I keep putting off learning php & MySQL as I never seem to be in the right frame of mind to start getting my head around it! Must do it soon though

Also if you need a good book, PHP and MySQL Web Development is a good one. They give plenty of code examples although some of them are a little inefficient like having two files for a form instead of using $PHP_SELF. But it is a good book nevertheless.
It is interesting about the tutorial over at Webmonkey. He really uses a different style by using printf.

I've tried webmonkey, hotwired, devshed, phpbuilder ... they show bits and jump around a lot.
Books are out of the question, cheapest I've been able to fond so far is $175 NZ.
Thanks for the links, was kind of hoping someone had stumbled on some small guy showing how to do MySQL, as the big guys are to tight on details and options. just need that step so can understand the manual lol
I found a good PHP site (even has assignments etc to do) but cant post the link as it has adult sponsers and links

$175 NZ dollars. I only paid $20-25 US dollars.
You are right about the bits and pieces. You just have to put the pieces together.

I have been looking on ebay for some books, found some but they all go way over my budget in the last 10 minutes or so.
I found when I made my html site it was hard to think like a newbie again, so hopefully I can put all the bits I can find together and put them in a way anyone can understand

I picked this up a fry's for 24.00 and it seems real easy to follow, with lots of screen captures. I can't tell you how accurate or good the examples are though being that I am learning myself. Well layed out book though and easy to follow. Comes with CD with apps. http://catalog.hungryminds.com/product.asp?isbn=0764535617

I find the tutorials at http://www.wdvl.com/Authoring/Languages/PHP/ usually okay for learning. But really, a good book will help most.
How much is a Wrox book -- it was about $75 Canadian for PHP Programming Professional -- says about 36 pounds UK? Would that be reasonable for you in NZ?
Maybe you can start an Amazon honour account to buy you technology, lol...

Well, I don't if that link you sent me was good or not, but from the first page alone, it seemed to answer ALL OF MY QUESTIONS! Whether it will teach me what I want to know, that's a different story... but I'll go through the whole thing soon (tonight?) and see how it goes...

Kevin Yank has done a few PHP/MySQL tutorials around the place, great way to start.
Heaps of places out there to start off, just not much after the basics.
I broke down and paid $129 for a book PHP and MySQL web development, published by SAMS, not for the beginner and has a few errors but seems very intense, not recommended to anyone without previous coding experience.
