Want to secure my Domain name....
I am aiming for my site to be finished within a couple of months.. I think it would be a good idea to secur my domain name now though.
I want a .com domain and want to register it somewhere where I can get it cheap. When I am ready to host it I will look for the best one available at that time.
This means that the people I buy the domain from must offer free transfer to another host ? Is this pretty common ?
Has anyone had any good experiences with easyspace ? ? ? As I am from the UK their price is £18 for 2 years for a .com and as far as I can see they offer free transfer for a .com, but not for a .co.uk ? ? ?
Anyother good ones, preferably UK based ?
Cheers

I wnat to order my domain ASAP, I'm just itching to get it sorted....
Easy space seems cheap and their website is really usefull. However the main thing I would be looking for is FREE domain transfering. I would be registering a .com or .co.uk
On the easy space www it says there is a £25 charge for .co.uk's. due to a change of IPSTAG ? ? ? ? ? It says nothing about .com's ???
Basically I will probably not want then to host my site but don't want to pay a transfer fee !!!!
I just need the green light from someone who has used easyspace or transfered a domain away from them.
I am also a bit worried that they only have email support..
Heres the text from the easyspace site. It clearly says there is a £25 charge fopr .co.uk's but what about .com's. Please reply ASAP, so I can do it !!!!

Procedures involved in transferring a .com, .net, .org , .co.uk , .org.uk domain AWAY from Easyspace
When you transfer a domain name you will need to change the nameservers that the domain points to.
These will be given to you by your new host.
The instructions on how to do this online follow.
Updating Name Server Details
This service applies to easyspace registered .com, .net, .org, .co.uk and .org .uk domain names.
The .com .org and .net domain MUST have been registered AFTER the 19th of January 2000.
If the .com .org and .net domain was registered before this date please contact Network Solutions to arrange the transfer.
Updating Name Servers through the Easyspace shop
Step 1.
In order to update the DNS settings of your domain name you will need to update these details at the members logon.
Step 2.
You need to hit the services button next to the domain that you want to transfer.
Then the service to select is "Name Server Configuration"
Step 3.
Once this service has been added you can click the name server configuration button at the top of the screen.
Step 4.
Check the "use custom name servers" box.
Step 5.
All that you need to enter is the Host nameserver addresses. The shop will automatically find the IP addresses.
Step 6.
The details will not be updated unless you hit the submit order button. Then confirm the order to complete the updates.
Once you have confirmed this, the shop will confirm that it will process the order.
These changes will take 24-48 hours to complete.
IPSTAG's
This only applies to .co.uk and .org.uk domain names.
It is not necessary for the IPSTAG to be changed for the domain to be transferred to a new hosts servers.
The IPSTAG is simply a marker to show who is the registrar of the domain.
One can change the IPSTAG for a transfer, this just enables the new host to change the nameserver details.
These details can be changed without changing the IPSTAG, i.e. we change them. Once they are changed the domain will be transferred.
All .com .org and .net domains are transferred without the registrar being changed.
However, if you do want the tag changed we will do this.
You will need to go to the shop and pay a £25 admin fee. Once you have paid this you will need to contact us with the new IPSTAG. We will then make the changes.

In normal cases you don't need to change the Domain Registrar, you only change if it's too expensive other than that I see no reason to change to a new Registrar.
You may often change Web Hoster for example you are not getting good services from them.
When you change to a new Host the DNS at your original Domain Registrar will need to be changed so that later the records at InterNic will be updated for .com, .net,.org and for foreign domains by the country's Internet Authorities.

Their are a lot of long messages in this thread. So I gave up reading them. If I missed something. Sorry. )
Okay. I use www.joker.com. By far the best in my opinion. £8/year. VERY easy to order and transfer. I've used others like TotalNic etc and they were rubbish in comparison!
