vsftpd not accepting user passwords
i'm using vsftpd
i can access the ftp from within the network, but from outside the network I can not.
I try to log in using a user account. It finds the server and starts the login but stops when I enter the password... "530: Login Incorrect". I've quadruple checked that the password is correct and for some reason it is not accepting the password.
- I am behind a router, but ports 20 & 21 are being forwarded to the server.
- the log file produces this...
...
Sat Apr 23 12:44:05 2005 [pid 2656] CONNECT: Client "[ip removed]"
Sat Apr 23 12:44:05 2005 [pid 2655] [user] FAIL LOGIN: Client "[ip removed]"
- my vsftpd.conf is...
anonymous_enable=NO
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022
dirmessage_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
xferlog_enable=YES
background=YES
listen=YES
userlist_enable=NO
userlist_deny=YES
- I have checked the userlist files and they do not list the users I created. Besides, if they did, would I even get that far in the login process?
- I'm pretty sure all permissions are set ok as well.
711 for users home folder (file group:users)
Any ideas? I'm really at a loss here. Oh, I'm kinda a newbie so I'm not that good with linux. I'm using fedora core 2.

problem went away with a re-install. open a whole new can of worms it seems, but this problem is not longer relevant.
