Portal Servers
This is a type of web server that really hasn't been discussed much lately, but it could open up an entirely new market for webmasters, designers and developers.
A portal server is like any other web server, utilizing TCPI/IP, HTML, and Apache or IIS software. The difference is that the portal server isn't on the Internet, but on business extranets and intranets.
For example, if you operate a small real estate company, you may well require the services of a lending institution, a bank, a print shop, an advertising company and so on. Wouldn't it be convenient if you all shared the same web server, where you could enter and access the data necessary to conduct business? Hence, the portal server.
Microsoft has already had a portal server application on the market for two years; i.e., the SharePoint Server, but there's no reason that an Open Source version, using Apache, can't be developed. Does anyone care to try?

Other portal server software can be found at:

I'd like to know if anyone has had any experiences with this software.
Thanks,

Novell has come out with a free offer for its new Small Business Suite 6. It sounds similar to Microsoft's Small Business Server.
You can read more about it at:

That's a nice discount. Has anyone here tried this, or plan on trying it?
