Parking and hosting from home
I currently have a domain name that I am not using for anything, and that's hosted with a hosting provider (in short, I am wasting money on the monthly fee I am paying to the host).
1) I would like move it from the host to "park" it on my home PC. Is it possible to do that?
2) I use a cable modem (and Win98 and IE 5.x)for internet access at home, so I assume I have a static IP address there. For testing of a program I am developing at work, I want to install either IIS or MS Personal Web server at home and have my co-worker access my home PC as though it was a www server. Is it technically possible to do that? If yes, how?
Please reply with your advice or point me to a site where I can learn more about that.
TIA

Yeah, I'd say that's possible.
1) You need to get DNS Nameservers for your IP Address either through www.ultradns.com or www.granitecanyon.com
2) Install a web server like the Sambar Server (www.sambar.com)
3) Change your domain info to point to your DNS nameservers.
4) Make sure your cable modem provider allows you to do this (which I doubt).

In fact, you need one IP-Adress and two DNS, primary and secondary. Nobody cares if the host is up or not

You don't even need an IP.
Your domain has to be "connected",
but having a valid MX record counts as connected.
So get one of thos free email servers (everyone.net, bigmailbox, etc) and modifiy you MX records as needed.
