okay i didn't ask for this!!! I manage 3 corporate websites and our ISP recommended leaving our current hosting plan for a reseller plan... Basically it's a Linux server running an admin GUI called Webppliance. Since setting it up - DNS, shopping cart, etc., I've noticed that file/folder permissions in a couple websiteds change automagically, namely execute permission. Does anyone have any idea way the permissions would change just about daily on different files and folders on different websites?

I am not a server administrator but am having to learn very fast, any help would greatly be appreciated. BE GENTLE Smiling

That definitely sounds strange, though that has been known to happen on control panel updates... If you want to "lock" a file, chmod it to its appropriate value and issue the "chattr +i" command at the shell prompt. If you need to modify it later, you'll need to 'unlock' it by doing a "chattr -i". Hope this helps!

Well I guess the question is when did the permissions change. When you transfer the files or when you ran WebAppliance.
