New host?
I'm in the thinking stages, but it seems to me you could get a domain name (call it http://www.xxxx.com) then you rent/lease several GB of space from an ISP. Then you turn around and "sell" space to others and give them non-domain names as subs to your own... ie., http://www.xxxx.com/RRRR You could either just sell space or, preferably sell web design AND space.
Isn't that basically the way many places work? Places like Angelfire etc.? Where can I learn more about that process? Books? On-line?
Thanks,

I don't think your plan is going to work, and here's why:
Most people that want hosting have domain names, so would definitely not settle for just a subdirectory. If they are going to PAY for hosting, they will expect the extras and domain hosting... If you were going to try to offer subdirectories, you might get a few people who signed up under you for free, but really with some free hosts like hypermart now that offer domain hosting or subdomains, you aren't going to be a very big competitor.
