localhost file on OSX (free BSD UNIX)

My client is using OSX (free BSD UNIX).

I need to set my clients machine so that if I type in central.net on the browser it will resolve to my IP address.

I've added central.net ( under Property ) and the IP address ( under Value(s) ) to the localhost file using NetInfo Manager and it doesn't do it.

I'm clueless as to how to us lookupd, which I understand is necessary to make use of the host file.

How can I get this to work?

Generally you would add a value like this:
IP address central.net
to the /etc/hosts file. Not too sure how this works going through the OSX gui.

Thanks everyone who's looked at this.

I've done this on a Windows and OS9 Mac, just can't figure it out on OSX.
