Is it possible to take backup of our web site on external hard disk
Hello,
My self Pollard and I am managing my client website. The web site size is huge, that is the database and files both will be around 15 GB. We are using a dedicated server. Following is the configuration of the server
120 GB Hard Disk
2 GB Ram
Windows 2003 server
Since the web site size is heavy we have requested our website hosting company that is it possible to take the back up of 1 month on other external hard drive and keep every 3 alternate days backup on the same server. They agreed upon to keep the data of 3 alternate days on the same server but they didn’t agree to keep 1 month backup on external hard drive
The following below were their reply
“Kindly note that it is not possible to take backup on external hard drive. Kindly check and confirm the same. We will be happy to help you if any further assistance is required.”
Please suggest us how to proceed further as we need backup in an emergency.
Thanks,
Pollard

He told he is using Windows server so cpanel only work with cpanel. The best solution is take backup on your pc and transfer it in your external hdd

This is not a justified reason that your hosting provider gave. Yes, you can backup your website on external hard drives, on CDs/ DVDs or any kind of permanent storage device. The best & cost effective way to backup your website is by downloading all the files on your desktop computer.

you are planing to take backup self or you have any professional guy.
I suggest you to take professional service to setup one line back and than update time to time.

Agreed, there are a lot of reputable backup services and it will be safer for your project, especially if you lack of experience

The best thing you can have the backup of your website in your system, or you can take the backup through Various file transfer protocols which you can download through online easily
