My friend told me that he has own web server at home and he also hosts web pages

BUT if I ping his site (http://www.itak.si) i get an IP from a network in Nem Yourk

How is this possible???

Is it possible to buy a IP for ex. in US and use it in Europe! If it is possible how can I do that! (I don't belive that this is possible but I am not sure. Is this "friend" of mine a lier?)

thank you very much for your answer!

PS: My cable operator alows me to have a web server ( i get a public IP) D/U stream is 512/512 I have also ADLS line. Is it possible to combine those two lines to become a faster line? THANX

Greetings to you kropivnik. Welcome to Webmaster forums.

Maybe you need to clarify things with your friend. I have a web server at home but only for local server of pages. Many people use hosts that are based in the US to host their web pages. In the US as far as I know, you can only buy domains that end in .com, .net, .org, with some newer designations coming out.

You generally can't tell all that much about pinging someone. You are better off if you want info about someone to use whois. This gives you more information than a ping does.

Please post your message back here if you need any more help.

Use the whois service. In the US, it is whois.org . This only works for .com, .net, & .org. Slovenia should have a site like this. I have no idea what that site would be though. I would do a search on whois slovenia and see what you find.
