IIS won't start
Hey,
I'm trying to get a little IIS server up on a Win2k Pro box. I've installed the IIS components and tried to start the default website. But each time I click Start, the console freezes for a few seconds and I'm faced with a "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" error.
I've tried reinstalling IIS, but to no avail.
I think I might've missed some crucial configuration or something...
I haven't much experience with IIS or any server config for that matter (apart from PWS).
Any ideas on what's going on?
Thanks for any help.

The only thing that I could find on MS site was this article. Hope it helps.

The article is applicable to IIS 3 and 4. I should've mentioned: I'm on IIS 5.
That is the error message I'm getting but, unfortunately, it seems like a different cause. As per instructions, I tried to locate whatever program was bound to port 25, but found none. I even tried disabling SMTP, but still nothing.

IIS should run straight out-of-the-box, so unless you've played arround with something, then there's probably a conflict between it and another program. Try closing down all applications (and killing what you don't need in the task manager), then start it again. If that now works, start each one up individually. If that still doesn't fix it, you might want to run a virus checker over your computer in case you've picked up a trojan or some other nasties....
