Help - Publish Server FTP setting
I do not have access to the control panel of a website that I am working on - so I can't see exactly where my files are going and I only have FTP to rely on . I am confused about what is the "root directory" and what is the "html directory". I need help with setting my ftp to send the files to the "html directory".
I was told:
"You have to use the html directory as the main directory. I copied your files from the root directory over to the html directory and it is working ok. Some of the links may need to be overwritten and then delete the duplicates in the root directory."
At the moment I set the publish server ftp at:
ftp.pcgallery.com
directory /pcgallery.com/html/
username------
password-----
Is this the correct setting to reach the html directory?
Thanks,
Diane

Should be correct if that is what you are told.
In case with a CPanel control panel for example, not the root folder (of the user) but the /public_html/ folder is the "root folder" that is actually published when the domain is called for.

Diane: the question is, does it work? Try publishing a file and see if you can access it. You are very likely correct.
Find the new path in FTP of the files that got moved. Ignore everything before the user (so ignore the /home/whatever but keep everything after that.
so if the path is:
/home/webuser/pcgallery.com/html/FILENAME.HTML
(where "webuser" is a user name, so may be different)
then your good with pcgallery.com/html/
but if the path is:
/home/pcgallery.com/html/public_html/ or just /home/pcgallery.com/html
then it needs to be different.
As I say, the test is: does it work. You wont break anything by trying.
