Hello everyone!

Finally, after days of sifting through forums, I find this one, which seems very nice indeed!

So...i was like, hoping, like you know...

Ah hell cut the ****...I really would appreciate it if someone is able to help me on this.

To make short the conversation:

For example, I have a website at a free webhost e.g. geocities (stop laughing!) with address http://www.geocities.com/me/, a registered domain ME.COM and also granitecanyon's free DNS services.

I can NEVER seem to get this right, since it's my first time handling a domain, even though I have read through like 50 pages of FAQ avaiulable on the internet...not to mention, posting on firums AND IRC with people (i dont know why) who as hard as possible try to avoid this DNS problem of mine.

Aiiee...so what DO I need to put in my RR/SOA/whatever. I understand that I need a...referrer service (?) if I did not have a unique IP for my free webhost...but surely there must be a way! Right? Like, dammit wont a computer understand the heirarchical structure that is ever so existent in the technology involving computers?

I really really really really need help on this one.

Oh yes please do include some info on MX/CNAME records I would have to modify in the future to accomodate everyone.net/bigmailbox.xom/i-p.com 's plug in services...!

I would love to be able to master this new aspect of my life hehehe.

Hi, I'm not very familiar with the granite canyon system so I'll give you another option:
Use myinternet.com. Simply move your domain to their nameservers, and you will be able to point it fairly easily to your free webspace account.

Hello Brian.

Well, AFAIK, myinternet/mydns does require a fee, right?

Well, I really would not like to pay for this since 1)I'm not in US 2)I don't have a credit card 3)I don't expect any revenue from this website to compensate my expenses 4)I would like this to be a practical lesson so that I can screw everything up b4 I begin to pay for stuff and really work on the heavy stuff (yeaah paying hehe).

Thanks.

ps Brian, Granitecanyon provides primary and secondary nameservers, for which each you could write up an SOA (or is it called an RR?) FROM SCRATCH. That's what I really wanna learn...

Alright, probably you are NOT able to use Granite Canyon. Since you have to fill in an IP, and your account does not come with an unique IP at geocities.

Second, you should try myinternet.com, they do offer a paid dns service, but that's not the one you need. You need the other service (called myinternet) they offer redirection to your geocities account.

aaah...thanks man! i go check it out today.

so...i still need to use granitecanyon, right? for the nameservers?

or is this myinternet also a dns?

OR...do I point granitecanyon to myinternet, which would redirect it to this geocities acct?

thanks.
