Apache Virtualhosts & Windows 2000 DNS
Okay, this is the basic problem. We have a Windows 2000 Server based network, with a DNS server running on the w2k server. We also have a linux server, which is for testing purposes.
I want subdomains set up on the w2k server to point any web address with the following convention to the linux server, which has apache virtualhosts configured for various subdomains, but don't know how to correctly configure the w2k server dns records.
e.g. linux server name is 'linuxsrv', w2k server name is 'w2ssrv', domain is 'company.local'
subdomains, *.linuxsrv to point to linuxsrv and have apache show the correct site.
I have added a new domain on the w2k dns records called 'linuxsrv' and added a default mapping for the ip address, 10.0.0.15. but adding e.g. sub to the 'linuxsrv' domain and adding the same ip doesn't resolve!
am i missing an important step?
