I have been running my own server now for about 6 months. I have learned a tweek or 2 but still consider myself a nob. I have had issues on an almost daily basis with the server still running but no access until i reboot it, then all is well for a while again. Is ther a program that will monitor the connection and reboot the server when needed? Or what information do I need to provide for further help or trouble shooting. Thank You.

What operating system are you running the server on?

We run a few Apache servers here at work, and one of them has a memory leak. We believe it's linked to Apache itself somehow. We set up a little program that emails us when the memory gets below a certain threshold. You could just as easily set one up that reboots the Apache service automatically.

I would check the memory next time, and see if that's getting low.

LOL at your 'I still consider myself a nob!' Wink

Anyway, running a Apache server can be quite complex, indeed your version of Apache would help , & your OS. In regards to software that activley monitors your connection, you could try snapfiles.com & look in the freeware > networking software there.

As a rule, you need to make sure your OS & APache is fully patched & bang up to date as while APache is very good, its also very prone to security issues & very easy to hack. You can get all kinds of applications that will email you periodically the state of your server inluding HTML reports of visitors & connections etc.

CPanel is an absolute must aswell!
