We usually put up fake plastic trees in-doors, and we decorate them differently every year, I planted a tree (which im not sure if its a pine tree) that looks like a christmas tree (triangle shaped and all) when I was 18, so it kindof grown tall now and is just outside our house on the garden, thats the real tree I decorate myself with my siblings and the little kids would make this scene from native materials of the Holy Family near the Tree...

Real, always. Pine tree scent, and a mess when it comes down. I go nuts with the decorating too!

With the new house, and the fact that we have just painted....... I do not think a tree is in the future. We are also getting rid of the popcorn celing around that time also. However we usually go with a real one from a lot.

HAHA,

Bought a really good quality 7ft one this year to replace a really old knackered one we have used for about 10 years! I like putting the lights on myself, it's part of the tradition! Have also got a small fibre-optic one for the office Smiling

Julia - if life was meant to be easy Michael Angelo would have painted the floor....

We've been getting a real tree for ages but last year we got a fake one which we'll be re-using. Sadly, no one really gets excited about Xmas anymore so it negates the pain in the arse-ness of having little bits of tree stuck in the carpet!

I suppose it's real, in that I don't have a tree. Imagine a real tree of length 0.

Then again, that could apply to a fake tree.

But if the tree is not there, what is there is not a tree, so if I claim it's a tree, it must be a fake tree.

Actually, it's not a fake tree so much as it's a real non-tree.

Pre-lit? Let's not even go there. Wink

What sort of trees are the real trees? Would they be pine?

I only know of two people that have ever used real trees, I guess fake are easier and last longer - can be just as messy.
This year probably wont have one as there isn't enough family left to worry about it.

Mine is fake. I live in an apartment building and we're not allowed to have real ones because it's a fire hazard. I love my tree though. I got a new one last year - good quality but not pre-lit. I wish I had got that because I'm really particular about the lights being even. Although I like more lights than the typical pre-lit tree. My tree looks awesome, I'll have to post a picture when I get it up. I'm starting today just putting the tree up and the lights. Maybe some base ornaments too. THen I'll do the rest with my boyfriend when he comes next weekend.

I have great memories of having real trees when I was a kid. Dad would pile us all into the truck (5 of us!) with the chainsaw in the back and we'd go to the tree lot a few towns away. We'd sing christmas carols, my brothers and sister taught us younger ones the echo thing on Rudolph. It was great. Then we'd get to the lot and look all over for the right tree and dad would cut it down. He wants to do that again for the grandkids but mom and my sister-in-law won't let him. Real trees make too much mess. Poor kids, they're missing out Sad

I like the smell of real too, I'm always trying to replicate it somehow but nothing ever works properly.
