Hi Guys,

Quick question...

Can you use an image in a header instead of text and would SE bots see the alt of the image as the text?

eg.

This is my Header

The way to do it would be like this:

Your text here

Thanks for the suggestion but hypothetically what is wrong with the other way?

In the example would SE bots read the "alt text" as the header?

For one it's not valid so isn't correct

most search engines dont look at the alt tag, the alt tag is only there to display if the image does not display. Search engines can not view images so have no idea if they load or not, and don't care unless it's the image bot looking and they list by image name

I thought it wasnt valid either, but according to the w3c validator it is... is this an over sight?

i made a test page with the validater logo and link, if you would like to see... anthonychristian.co.uk/tester.html ... the "ICHOR Prints" image is in the

and if search engines tend not to read the alt tag at all wouldn't banner links have very little use to search engine unless had the 'title' attribute?

search engines are aware of alt tag spamming, like hidden keywords, title should be descriptive for accessibilty
