slow page loads due to topsites links
I have one or two "topsites" links (image source is php scripts) on my pages. Once in a while they are either incredibily slow or the never complete. Since these topsite linkes are at the bottom of the page it really doesn't affect my overall page display but I hate to have a page that sits there trying to load for ever.
The topsite links are very good ones for me an I don't want to drop them. Is there some way I can automatically cancel the image source link (running the php script) if it does not load (complete) in x amount of time???

You could probably use a timer but depending on the nature of link (ie if advert style) you could be penalised.
Have you tried to narrow down why they taking so long? is it the file size, the connection, the server, the code ... ?

I beleive it to be a server issue. I told the owner about hit.. he acknowledged some problems and said he'd run some tests but this 6 months ago. Most of the time it's fine. Very fast, but about once a week for an hour or two it won't load at all. Perhaps he's doing some king of maint at these times???

could be backups etc as they can slow the server down, or over selling of server space, a bad user script ...
