Quicktime Movies not showing in IE 7

I've inserted a Quicktime movie on a web page. When viewed on Safari and Firefox on a Mac - no problems. Shows up fine.

When I switch over to Windows Vista and view the same page on IE 7 - no movie. I know absolutely nothing about JavaScript - only what Dreamweaver inserts for me, or what I copy off the internet. Could someone please look at this page and let me know what's going on?

Movie should show up on the right sidebar under 3D Spine Simulator heading.

Doesn't work for me on Ubuntu either. This sort of thing depends entirely on what plugins you've got installed on your machine, is there a Quicktime plugin for Windows Vista?

About the only video format that will work on pretty-much every platform is Flash. That's why Youtube uses it (although it doesn't work on 64bit systems, annoying). Video on the Web is tricky, so don't be worried that you've hit problems. Smiling

Another way around this is to allow people to download the video, if they haven't got a plugin installed the user can usually play it on their machine later on whatever media player they've got installed.

It shows up on my computer - using Ubuntu 7.10 & Firefox 2.x.x. I do have the Quicktime plugin installed which is what is needed to view it.

Are you talking 64-bit Linux or Windows? You can get the flash plugin on 64-bit Ubuntu.

Works here on Windows XP Pro - but that's because I recently installed Quicktime.

Reasons that it may not work on a particular computer:

1. Quicktime is not installed at all
2. Quicktime is installed, but not incorporated in the browser
3. Pop-ups are disabled, either in the browser or by the firewall

As you see, there will be a lot of visitors unable to view it on first visiting the site. I suggest you add some instructions and a link for downloading both the movie and the Quicktime player, as well as a warning that it opens a new window or tab.

P.S. Look for a tiny icon in the center of the status bar, at the bottom of the browser window. This indicates when a pop-up is blocked by IE 7. Click the icon to unblock it.

You can get the flash plugin on 64-bit Ubuntu.

It's not a 64-bit plugin though, it's possible to run the 32-bit plugin on a 64-bit system (as long as the 32-bit libraries are installed). How easy is that though? I keep hearing people complaining about this, although I'm using a 32-bit machine so wouldn't know.

This is good advice.
