Meta Tags undesirably altered Page Design

I have just made a website using a downloaded template that I modified.

The original template only had a 'Title' field but no metatags, when I tried to add some Metatags the page design at the top was changed.

With Meta Tags http://www.steveredhead.x10.bz/Metag.html

Without Meta Tags http://www.steveredhead.x10.bz

I would like to add Meta tags without the page design changing, I would welcome any ideas.

Would welcome any advice how to resolve this.

Those meta tags need to go inside the <head> tags, not after the <body> tag. Putting them in the <body> is creating an extra space at the top.
