Members Only Password Protect
I am in need of a client-sided program that I can purchase or for free for a members only section of a website to do the following:
1. Member signs in with user name and password which will be assigned to him/her manually by webmaster. (Encrypted)
2. Alerts webmaster when log-ins fail via e-mail
3. Able to accept at least 500 members
4. Program must work with M/S Front Page 2000 (I know....I know....you all hate it....but it works!)

Client side?!?
I wouldn't trust any client side password protection script.
Why don't you just password protect the directory? (I'm assuming *nix)

Ummmm.....That would be fine to protect the directory...How do I do that?

Does your host have a control panel that does this?
I'm not too familiar with using the *nix OS...
If you do password protect the directory, then anyone who tries to access a page in that directory will be prompted for a username/password before the page will display.

If there is no answer on Google, then there is no question.

I don't know. I am using Earthlink and I upload via Front Page 2000. So, in order to do this, I'd have to call them or something? Ugh....
So....if my clients want this feature, I'd have to work with each individual host?
I can certainly appreciate the security of this.

I am not sure about FP2000 as I am not using it. However ask your server support for help and how to password protect certain area of your site. In most cases they will assist or point you to some FAQ pertaining to it.
For unix/linux server, usually they have this feature as Mark already mentioned and you can access it via control panel of your server provider.
If you wish to install third party script where you have more control and using cgi/perl and .htaccess then download it at:

If you are not familiar or your first time installing.
Please study carefully the "readme file" which is self-explanatory and also create a dummy directory/folder for your testing purpose.
The freeware version can only password protect one directory/folder at a time and the license version can support multiple directories/folders using one usename/password via a control panel incorporated with the software.
Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, NSS. That program looks like what I am looking for....beter than Riadalock...
