Mangled CSS in IE

I'm converting a site I designed last year over to CSS, and I'm having some problems. I'm trying to use some things for the first time, like transparent PNGs and layers. Unfortunatley, those two things seem to mangled by IE. Firefox has no problem and displays the page exactly how I want it to. IE, not so much.

Here's the page:

And here's the page I orginally designed:

I do not have time to look at code right now, but wanted you to know that IE does not support png with alpha transparancy. It's the only brower that doesn't support alpha transparancy.

Like I said..no time, but IE is the worst browser for supporting standards.

Try converting to a standard GIF and hope it doesn't dither too much. Keep the origionals, though!

Yeah, you can tell he switched to gifs.

There is a 'fix' of sorts for IE, you can try it: here it uses Javascript and other IE mumbo jumbo I imagine, but it fixs PNG alpha.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work when the PNG's are background images in a span. That's the same problem that I ran into when I tried a completely different fix (one that I don't seem to have saved the link to).

Also, the left menu is floating over the main section where the content is if you view it in Firefox, but not in IE. Any ideas for a fix on that?

I've still got nothing on this one, unfortunately. Any ideas?

I still haven't been able to get this working in IE, and now some other updates to their site are getting backed up. Argh!

Any ideas at all out there? I'm in desperate need of help.
