Loading Status Bar - Need code to display % of Image/s Loading status bar.

Can I display a status bar showing the percentage or time left for an image to load, all the images in a file to load or ideally the complete screen via multiple frames to load.

All I've been able to find are very basic 'preloading' scripts which look cumbersome upon loading, only show a 'fill' effect and even after the preload still takes time to load up the images which defeats the purpose! (I may have typically over 100 2kb jpg files in a page). (NB : It's not really a preload script I'm wanting anyway is it?)

(A good, smooth 'fill' effect may suffice though ideally I'd like a % or time left).

Am I expecting too much from JavaScript? Will I need Java - please no!? Should I post this Question in one of the other forums?
