I am guessing that you mean Java code? If you meant Javascript then you must be mistaken because javascript is a language that runs on the users computer's browser and is not actually parsed by the server. If you mean Java code (ie .jsp) then I'm sorry but i won't be any help.

Yes, vB uses a server-side language (PHP). It'd be possible to make your script using any of PHP, ASP, CGI/Perl, JSP and what not...
Try hotscripts.com and sourceforge.net for server-side scripts.

Are you already using some sort of member control system (forums, registration/member database)? If you do, then it'd be a good idea to stick to whatever language that scipt is written in so it'll be easier to integrate with.
Or do you just want to show how many users (incl. guests) are active?

yes, i'm using vbulletin for my forum, but I just want to add a 'current online' from the users on the rest of the site (ie. the home page) to that.

Check out this hack: http://www.vbulletin.org/hacks/index.php?action=showhack&hackid=94
It allows you to show who is online on a page outsite your BB.
If you need help setting up the hack, you can register with vbulletin.org and use the (official) support thread (link is on the hack page).
I have'nt installed the hack, so I don't know if there's a help file with it.
'Course we'd be glad to help you at TWF too.

If you have a registered copy of vbulletin, you have access. If you don't, is your copy legal?

Not sure what the problem is with my request, but you could be a little nicer...

I don't see why you can't register. I don't even use or own vB but I could register there...
There must be a reason why that board won't let you get the hack without you having to register. I think you should respect that and get the code the way you should.

The problem with the request is that it is asking me to bypass the rules of a forum for your benefit.
You asked. I answered. I could put it a lot more rudely, but I thought a simple no would suffice.

Wow that was a pretty evil response, Suzanne...
If people are signing in, you could have the signin script write to a file or DB, then when they sign out, the names could be removed...
the 'who is online' part would read from that file or DB and print the results... simple it seems
You could also use sessions in PHP
Just some ideas...

evil?
Because I won't steal something that he could get legitimately?
Some curious reasoning you have there.

hi nike_guy, thanks for the constructive advice. I just wish I knew how to write scripts, looking for a ready-made one.
suzanne, 'steal something'!?!?! wow, you really have quite the imagination...lol:D I never asked you to steal anything, simply asked for a file, not sure why you are reacting like this.

Suzanne: He didn't ask you to steal anything... and by evil response I meant that you just said 'no' you didn't even give a reason... I didn't mean any offense but I just thought that your response was rude

If he has vbulletin, he should have access to the hacks from vbulletin. So yes, asking me to go get them for him, and email him, is asking me to steal. He was given a number of suggestions for getting the information himself.
As for being rude? If that's how you see it, that's your perogative. I prefer to think of it as being direct. Too many people allow themselves to be cajoled into doing things against their best interests because they cannot say no without having a raft of excuses behind it.
No means what it means. Can you do this for me? No.
End of story.

Sorry I didn't catch this sooner...
I sent an email to [email protected] with his url. If it is an illegal copy, they'll take care of it.
If you want any support for vBulletin, decoder, you'll have to inquire at http://www.vbulletin.com or http://www.vbulletin.org. We cannot provide support for this software, and certainly not distribute files.
