How to create HTTPS

Hi

Enlighten me on how HTTPS is created on a site.
Does the server needs special software or certificates.

Do we need SSI to be used and how.

What should I ask the Server provider for getting to establish HTTPS.

Please give with an example

If you could mail it would be helpful.

I can tell you how we went about it. We went to Verisign for our ssl certificate. This was a lovely process. Reminds me of dealing with the IRS!!!

Anyway, we installed it on a Linux platform. You need to enable your httpsd daemon. You configure the appropriate paths to the certificate and you are good to go. Now in all honesty, I have a linux guru working for me that took care of the config. It appears to be simple IF you have a decent working knowledge of Linux.
