hide/show frame

this is what i want to do:
i have a page with frames. you click on a button and the left frame disapears (the right one stays). click on another button and the frame opens back up.
how can i do this? i've tried everything i can think of. is there an example on the net i can look at?

The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was.
