hey guys,

I'm creating a HTML site but I want it to have some of the features of a FLash site. One of the things I want to do is allow the user to
be able to select from 5 different music loops while they surf the site (like a flash site).......

can someone one help me understand how this is accomplished in HTML (music streams and user selection changes)?

I know how to embed wavs and such but am not familiar with streaming loops and allowing the user to change selections.

like in flash, is it possible to do this without a media player window popping up?

thanks much

It's been ages since I've even tried it, but you'll be wanting to embed the sound. Midis are the only way (I *think*) to embed sound without a player.

I'm not clear on the details, I think embed in Netscape and object in IE? Basically without using mp3s you're torturing your guests into long download times and crappy quality.

I personally don't feel that sound adds much to a site, including Flash sites, though Flash sites have the advantage of me not having to deal with sound programs.

Hope that gets you started looking, anyway!

my friend wanted his HTML site to look, feel, and seem like a Flash site. It since I am still learning Flash, I persuaded him to redesign for an HTML site. THus, my original questions to you are no longer valid.

I'm with you about MIDI. If that's the option to go with, then the site will have no music. I am all for music on a site but only if there is an option for TURNING IT OFF.

thanks for your time and thoughts Suzanne.

What your wanting is a jukebox, its done with JavaScipt, but like Suzanne has mentioned, it can be torture.

So many sites these days use midis or wavs on loops that are so annoying, remember not every one has the same taste as music as the next guy, I, like many others (I'm sure) surf with speakers turned off.

If you still want the script check out the dhtml and javascript sites that offer fre scripts, I'm sure its called "jukebox"
