Forum CSS clashing with overall site CSS

I've got phpBB wrapped in my overall site template. In Firefox all is well and everything plays nicely together. However in Internet Explorer, you'll see that the image "endcap.jpg" immediately below my navigation menu is slightly shifted to the right only when on the forum pages. I've tried to remove sections of CSS to find where the clash is coming from but I just can't figure out what is causing the problem. Any ideas as to why this is happening or how to avoid it?

P.S. It's minor but you'll also notice a small space in IE just above the menu too, but once again only on the forums.

1) I'd like to bump this post up again
2) I've realized a few extra points about this problem.
a) Although I do see a slight gap both above and below the menu items, it appears that the end cap graphic below the menu is not shifting to the right as I originally thought. Instead, it appears that the end cap graphic is just fine but the menu items are shrinking widths only with the phpBB pages in IE.
b) In addition, if you choose any other theme (go to the top right of the home page to switch themes), it will always switch back to the Red theme when you visit the Forums in IE. Huh?
Any ideas what's going on? Why in particular can I do to make phpBB and my theme CSS play nice together?

First potential problem: different doctypes. The forum is using HTML 4.01 transitional, the main site is xHTML strict. In this case you'll have to change both to a transitional doctype since I don't imagine the forum is compliant.

That might not be the problem but it's always a first step when strange things are happening on some pages and not others.

I don't know what the problem would be with that theme switcher... did that script come with the forum? Maybe there's an answer in their support forum or something.
