file upload time lag

Hello all.
Just a simple question on uploading web files to host. According to
my ftp software consul uploads show as successfuly transfered but when I look at the site nothing has changed. I've noticed that changes take up to 48 hrs to take effect. Is this normal, only I was under the impression that
transfers are almost instantaneous?
Any comments appreciated
Paul

FTP is instant.
for your site changes press f5 to refresh the cache (while on the page)

It happens on one of my hosts sometimes too (which i seldom use, for that reason) - basically i'll upload a changed html file or stylesheet or something and the page won't change on the web site for a while. I think maybe the host is using a back up of your work or something and is only updated at some point in the future. It's a bit unfair really and you should contact them.

its actually sometimes just a browser caching problem... use other browsers and see if it refreshes a new page...

There are two caches, server and browser. f5 refreshes the server cache which makes the browser cache refresh

good point there busy.... forgot to mention the server side caching, usually works if you change browser or refresh it internalyy by clearing up your own cache

i don't think it is a cache problem cos it only happens on my one server, the others i use it's fine. Even a ctrl+f5 won't have any effect on the troublesome one. Dunno though.

Years ago I had a host that had some weird set up, you'd ftp some files and on upload the directory listing would reload as normal but would not refresh. hitting refresh refreshed the directory, not sure if it effected the site changes or not but I needed to know the files were there. Not sure if the problem was solved before I switched hosts, was a while back

I think this just happens with some hosts. I have a client who uses the same host for all of his sites and I get that issue. Also with this particualr host the ftp session times out really quickly.
