Download window - having trouble getting the download window to pop up

I want to make it possible for people on our Intranet site to be able to download reports in word doc format. I set up a link that calls the doc file. The first time around it worked fine. The "open file or save to disk" widow came up and the doc file was downloaded. But the secopnd time I tried it, the word doc file opens in my browser.

It seems to me there is a perl script that does what I am looking for, but I have not seen one. Besides, that my be a bit of overkill.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

Zip it and you wont have that prob anymore, with WinZip and PKZip you can make a self extracting utliity out of too so they don't have to have the same zip utility you do.

Or just say on the page something like "Right click and choose 'save target as' to download... mac users click and hold, then choose 'save target as'" or something... that way they can either view it in the browser or download it to their hard drive

...there is a way to have it open a .html page that automatically starts required download, this uses a scripting language.
