Doorways
There is a concept which I am a little confused about when speaking of doorway pages. When creating one, does its domain have to differ from the one you are linking to? or could you stick it in the same domain as the page you are linking to?
I.E. is it okay to create a doorway under XYZ.com that links to a page in XYZ.com, or should it go from ABC.com to XYZ.com...
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean a portal page?
To me a portal is a gathering of links that lead to other places on the site or other sites.

Doorways are generally a Very Bad Idea. If you have something to say, say it. Don't lead users or search engines on goofy Alice in Wonderland trips to get to it.

However you do it you are going to get into trouble with the search engines, they don't like doorway pages at all. not only will they not list the doorway page but some of them will not list or even remove the page that it links too.
However if you are still going to ignore the "why bother - wheres the advantages?" advice that everyone has given you, abc.com - xyz.com will give you a better result and will add as a link inwards adding to your pr.
Just make sure your doorway page actually contains some decent content, maybe you'll get away with it.
