<div></div> what's this for?
I've seen some people use this tag and some people not use it. What does it actually do? Does it make a real big difference if I don't use this tag in my page?

There is no reason to use the tag unless your find it useful in formatting your pages or need it for DHTML. The DIV tag is used to divide sections much like the P tag. It can enclose any type of item including paragraphs, images, or any type of block element for that matter. WebMonkey has a quick article that I saw a couple of days ago which talks about some of the advantages of using the tag for basic formatting. Take a look at http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/html/97/19/index2a.html Microsoft Workshop also has a page that documents some of the more advanced features of the DIV tag. Many of which are only supported in IE. http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/objects/DIV.asp
