A Diary for my users?

Hi all

I would like to be able to offer my website users a diary function i.e.
They can set up their own diary on my site which is of course password protected.
They can set the diary entries to be private or public
Diary entries that are public to be displayed on the home page (or page I decide) so that other users can access them.

I am thinking along the lines of any of the online diaries you can get on the web but specifically attached to my website.

I have absolutely no idea where to start with this - what kind of programming or is it possible that someone remotely hosts this kind of script - or is script even the right term to use here? LOL - please be gentle I'm not a complete beginner to web design but my knowledge kind of runs out with this. Would it be a cgi script?

I would be hugely grateful if someone can point me at least in the right direction to look.
Thanks

What type of diary are you talking about? Are you talking about a member area for your users to create their own homepage and have their own space? If so http://www.communityarchitect.com can help you do that with no trouble. Now if you need something simpler kind of like tthe one I have on my website. Just click on the red link Called "inspirations"

when you get to my website.

I can help you with that one script, you can create as many categorie as you want and give the categories the name you want.
Thanks
