CSS Indentation "Standardization"
Abhi and I were discussing this:
Quote: Indents. As a rule, anything that increases white space also enhances a document's appearance and readability. Indents add white space and give shape and definition to a paragraph.
It comes from this page: http://collaboratory.nunet.net/dsimpson/typography.html.
If you look at the layout section, it has the first paragraph not indented, and all paragraphs after that indented. Another page displays this method: http://css.nu/examples/indent.html.
My question is Why? Why is the first left alone and all successive paragraphs indented? This boggles my mind.

Ok, after further investigation, it seems that it is another american thing. American material in general is all indented, and the rest of the world predominately uses non-indented first paragraphs and indents the rest.
Why must we americans always be different?

being different isn't a crime, just sometimes confusing and mind boggling
