counters & .shtml - now that i've changed the names....
Yesterday, I created ONE file (pulldown.html) to be referred to on every one of my pages, including the index page.
The way I track my counters is on a separate page that my customers don't see. But since all my filenames have changed to .shtml, they are all saying the same thing (and they started over, of course).
What have done wrong as far as my counters go? Here's the code for one:
<!-- counter -->
<p>
<img src="http://www.myfreeoffice.com/cgi-bin/nph-count2?width=5&link=http://2kcut.com/index.shtml" width=75 height=20 border=0 alt="counter">
<font size=4> Millennium Cutlery Home Page
</font>
<!-- end counter -->

Check the link variable you send to the cgi script, it should be the url of the page you want to count. It may be that they are all counting the index page if they weren't changed.

Maybe your counter is counting by http referrer. In that case, the http referrer for each page changed after you changed the files names to .shtml.

Malte, I'm still having problems. I may be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that I've only had 5 hits since the I made the filename change 3 days ago. And every other page shows a count of 8 (every page). I'm lost, I guess.
