well, i guess that doesn't require much more info, does it?

i'm just wondering if my pages would load any faster if i used the following:

<a href="/case.shtml">
vs.
<a href="http://2kcut.com/case/shtml">

and if there is a reason for one or the other.

thanks!

Using relative urls is easier for maintainance, and requires less code, so yes, it will affect the load time, but only by a tiny, tiny amount.

To call to other folders (so that it uses the cache properly), use ../ to move up the directory level.

So if I am in /examples/images/images.html and I want an image in /images/gifs/superimage.gif, I would call to it in images.html like this:

src="../../images/gifs/superimage.gif"

So I would go up two levels to the main directory, and then down the path to the image I want.

That way all the images are in one spot, and used once in the cache, et cetera.

hth,

Suzanne

... and if you ever change the server where you host your site, you'll be soooo happy you used relative addressing because you'll need to change nothing, instead of using absolute addressing and needing to change EVERY href and src reference on your entire site

... and you can test most of your site offline on your hard drive if you use relative urls and set up the directory the same, which is great because you don't have to show the world your changes until they are primo...
