add my own search engine
Can I add a search engine to my site that will only search my site? If so, can you please advise me of how to go about doing this or learning how to do it? Thank you for any and all advice.

You can try using a third-party software like
http://sitelevel.whatuseek.com/
Which will allow:
1)Your visitors to search only within your site
2)Let your visitors easily find what they're looking for on your site.
3)See what people are looking for on your Web site.
You don't need to install any script, when you sign up it will sent a robot to your site and index all pages and you only need to add the link/search box to your pages.
You can also co-brand it to look like your site with your logo, etc.
Hope this helps

rainwater,
You can find a bunch of scripts for that purpose here http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Searching/Searching_Your_Web_Site/ or if you have no cgi access try these http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Remotely_Hosted/Searching_Your_Web_Site/
Hope They Help

I'm using Atomz search engine for my site and I'm very happy with them. They have a free version for site of up to 400 pages. Their support is quick and friendly and the search engine is just great.

I second anat's Atomz.com recommendation. I have successfully used it on my site (link in signature), feel free to see how it works. Couldn't be more happy.

I use http://www.freefind.com & find it very good.
It is easy to customise and also produces a full site map of your site for you.
They also email you weekly results so you can see what people have been searching for etc.
