Wireless Service
Hello
I have heard a lot about in-home wireless internet access through an access point.
I've also heard about wireless access from around the world.
I'm thinking that this would require a modem, a phone service plan, and an ISP.
Can this be done for a laptop or PDA?
How much does this cost?
Thanks!

Not sure if you can do this PDA, but I wouldn't say no. Just never thought about it or tried it myself. It is definitely doable for laptops, definitely. You might try TechTV.com and run a search for wireless tutorials. I was considering going the wireless route, but decided it was far too expensive and uneconomical. Keep that in mind when you make your choice.

Generally when wireless in the home is talked about, it is wireless access to your lan. It is merely replacing that Linksys cable DSL router with one that doesn't have to have patch cables connected to it. Once you are connected to your lan, you can use cable/DSL to connect to the internet. There are some security problems with wireless lans that has currently not been fixed. The advantages are that you don't have to wire up your house. The disadvantages, besides security, are that it is slower and much more costly.
Here is some info from Linksys on wireless products.

Your handheld connects via a a different kind of wireless connection.
