Wireless Mouse...woe is me!
Alright, so I received a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse set for my birthday or last Christmas (6 months-1 year ago); I can't remember. The problem is now that my mouse is acting a little goofy. Sometimes when I try to use it, the mouse will not respond on-screen to what I am doing, whether it is simply moving the mouse or left- or right-clicking. I've tried changing the batteries, reestablishing the connection via the receiver and via shutting off the computer and removing and reconnecting the receiver. None of these things worked. Here's what has worked: when I move my mouse from the mouse pad to the rolling shelf my keyboard sits on just below, my mouse works just fine 100% of the time (so far). Could this be just that the wireless connection is disturbed when it is placed up higher? (My receiver is on top of my tower, just to the left and below my keyboard.) Does it have something to do with the surface on which it is being used? The mouse pad is a soft, typical flat smooth texture, and the rolling shelf is a flat wood.
Like I said, the problem is solved by moving the mouse to the shelf and using it, and it really isn't much of an inconvenience, but I would like to know if there is some sort of obvious problem here or if it is just something that can't be ascertained by these details alone.

Don't really know what the problem is, but I've had crappy luck with wireless technology. I went through two wireless keyboard/mouse sets and got rid of both because of the unresponsiveness. They were always too unpredictable and just plain annoying! I got a wireless router and it works pretty well, but just when you don't expect it to lag up, it will (now I just use a cat-6 cable)
Moral of the story, wireless is still kind of quirky (or maybe I am
)
Is there a microwave on top of your desk? I heard those can screw with wireless.

hmmm.... Common mouse problems I know of is that some scroll mouse have high scroll sensitivity, you need to set the scrolling sensitivity to minimum coz it will not let you move the pointer without doing so.
Second optical mouse don't work well in glossy and bright surface, you need to find a flat black or flat dark surface.
As far as wireless goes, don't put the receiver near any metal surface, what worked for me before is to use a usb extender cable and put the receiver just below my table in the edge of the typing surface...
I hope this tips could help those with the mouse problems...

No microwave, although that's a good idea for coding and snacking...lol
I'm pretty happy with how it's working now so it's not a huge deal. Thanks for the advice though.

I like using those scroll mouses because it has low sensitivity unlike those of the laser mouse. i havent tried using those wireless mouse. Is it laser or scroll?

Hmmm, quite an old thread this one. Anyway.
You can get both. My current mouse is wireless and uses laser (/me puts pinkie to side of mouth -- old thread, means old jokes folks!). Used to have a wireless mouse with a ball inside. Is that what you mean by 'scroll'?

I went to my cousins recently to fix her PC.
She has one of those with the roller ball on the top to move the mouse pointer, the mouse itself stays in the same place.
I was there about an hour and STILL kept trying to push the dam thing around the table.
I didn't like it at all, nor do I like laptop mouse pads.
I got used to the laptop mouse pad from using one a lot, but I couldn't use one in my day to day PC work.

*UGH* Wireless mice annoy me to no end. I have a wireless keyboard that I like using, but I've got the mouse that came with it tucked away somewhere and I use a standard corded mouse. (When dealing with graphics, the wired version is just better.)
I have one of those 'ball on the top' mice for my PC - I don't give that computer a lot of room so having the mouse in one place works well.
As for laptop touchpads - well, laptops are the worst designed piece of computer hardware available - they just plain suck. Sure they're handy, and I do use one, but their design is awful.

I quite like those ball-on-top mice (balls on top!) When bored it's fun to spin the ball round really fast, watching the pointer go mad on-screen.
It's also fun watching people who've never used one before (e.g. greg) trying to get to grips with them.
Childish, I know.

One of my problems with the ball on top is that, after a lot of use, it hurts my hand.
