Is Trend Security Worth Keeping?
I recently bought Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2008. I was happy with how the 2007 version had protected me and didn't give a second thought to updating. However, the latest version has slowed my computer down a lot. I still have a few days in which to apply for a refund. My conundrum is this: I need very good security as I visit a lot of dodgy sites (Don't ask which ones. What I don't tell you, you can't testify about in court),and Trend seems to catch all the nasties. But Trend has a lot of stuff I don't need and even the stuff I do need seems an excessive burden on my memory. (I've got 2 GB of DDR2 RAM) Should I try and tweak Trend, disable options etc, or is there a much lighter security program that's still able to protect me in the dark alleys of the internet?

I am interested as my copy of 2007 expires later this month, however I went ahead and bought 2008 3 license since I needed a copy on my wife's system. Well I found out the hard way, 2008 does not run on Windows 2000. Had to go with the free AVG or whatever it is.
I will be timing my system boot and resource usage before and after upgrading. It would have to be a huge difference to get me to change though, I have had numerous occasions where Norton and McAfee (current updates installed) have missed a virus that trend caught. I have backed up friends hard drives to my server before reinstalling the OS, and even though they had updated AV, it missed files that trend hit on as soon as the file copied over to the server.

Thanks for your reply, Greg. It confrimed my gut instinct. I've never had a virus since installing Trend and I think a few extra seconds here and there to start a program is worth it to spare me the time, money and stress involved with cleaning up after a naughty gets through.
It would be interesting to know how much the 2008 version slowed your pc down. I assumed the upgrade wouldn't make much difference and so didn't note the boot time etc, before I installed. If you remember, could you post the results of your test here, please?
